The first phase of Wuhan Metro Line 7 and Line 11, as well as the Yangtze River combined highway and metro tunnel will open to traffic in Wuhan, capital of central China’s Hubei Province.

After the opening of Metro Line 7 and Line 11, the mileage of Wuhan Metro will reach 288 kilometers, and the regular passenger flow will get to 3.5 million per day, accounting for 45 percent of Wuhan's public transport passenger flow, which will be a huge step towards the world-class metro city.

The first phase of Wuhan Metro Line 7 departs from the Garden Expo North Station and ends at the Yezhihu Station, which passes through the Yangtze River combined highway and metro tunnel, the world's first combined highway and metro shield-driven tunnel. With a total length of 30.85 kilometers, the first phase of Wuhan Metro Line 7 has 19 stations, including 10 interchange stations, which can contain the initial cross-river passenger flow of 473,000 per day. Embracing Wuhan Business District Station and Wuchang Railway Station, Line 7 also runs through the large residential areas of Nanhu subdistrict, making 300,000 residents go to major districts more conveniently.

With a total length of 19.7 kilometers, the first phase of Metro Line 11 runs from Guanggu Railway Station to Zuoling Station. Line 11 enjoys 13 stations, including 3 interchange stations which will be transferable to the south extension line of Metro Line 2 in the future. Line 11 is located on the east-west main axis of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone, which will effectively push forward the construction and development of the areas along the line.

As the world's first combined highway and metro shield-driven tunnel, the Yangtze River combined highway and metro tunnel started the construction in 2014. The mainline tunnel is 4.66 kilometers long, 1.3 kilometers from the downstream Second Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge and 1.9 kilometers from the upstream Wuhan Yangtze River Tunnel. The tunnel segment has an outer diameter of 15.2 meters and a shield section with an excavation area of 195 square meters, which is currently the largest diameter river tunnel in China.(hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei)
