A Letter to International Friends in Wuhan

Dear international friends in Wuhan:

 

In response to the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), Hubei Provincial People’s Government has activated Level I public health emergency response since January 24, 2020. The Wuhan Municipal People's Government has mobilized resources and stayed committed to prevention and control. These days, we are deeply concerned about every international friend in the city. Your health and confidence are important to us, so we are reaching out to you. Every organization and everyone of us share the responsibility in the fight against the epidemic. In this sense, we recommend the following matters to your special attention:

I. Follow official updates. Follow closely the information on official website of Wuhan Municipal People’s Government (http://www.wuhan.gov.cn/) or WeChat Official Account “武汉发布” for the most recent updates. Check out the list of designated hospitals in Wuhan, and look for prevention and treatment guides. Avoid believing and spreading false and unverified information. II. Focus on epidemic prevention. Keep good personal hygiene by washing your hands more frequently with soap or alcohol-based sanitizer. Cover a cough or sneeze with a tissue or your flexed elbow. No spitting. Dispose of used masks appropriately. Maintain proper ventilation and keep rooms clean. Avoid close contact with wild animals or birds. Eggs and meat must be thoroughly cooked before consumption.

III. Minimize outdoor activities. Avoid going to crowded places, parties or other public gatherings and properly wear masks (preferably surgical mask) if the necessity of going arises.

IV. Join in our prevention and control efforts. Please cooperate with government or community personnel or medical staff if they inquire about your health condition. If you have any symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, or fatigue, please report to the community personnel or the relevant department of your university or college, who will guide you to a designated hospital for medical service.

 

Wuhan is an unyielding hero city with optimism and vitality. As the media commented:" At such a moment, the city embodies its spirit of perseverance, Wuhan people show true love and warmth, and we all feel the value and light of life." Please join us to tide over difficulties, continuously strengthen self-protection and keep contributing to epidemic prevention and control.
