Central China's Hubei province will hold a series of activities from November 2017 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Rewi Alley, a New Zealand-born social activist and writer, who is an old friend of the Chinese people and Hubei people.

Rewi Alley, born in 1897, devoted 60 years of his life to China's national independence. He has visited Hubei's Honghu city for five times since 1932 to help local people fight against the flood, provide disaster relief, and promote friendship between Hubei and New Zealand.

Rewi Alley Day and New Zealand Cultural Week will be held from November 22 to 26 to enhance understanding of Alley, carry forward his spirit and continuously promote the friendship between Hubei and New Zealand. Alley's statue will be unveiled in Honghu city on November 22 to mark his contributions.

Other activities include bilateral visits, construction of China Hubei Memorial Bridge in Alley's hometown and a concert.

The activities are jointly organized by Foreign Affairs (Overseas Chinese Affairs) Office of Hubei Provincial People's Government, Hubei People's Association for Friendship with foreign countries, Hubei Provincial Department of Culture and New Zealand Embassy to China.(hubei.gov.cn)
