Wuhan’s engineer Xu Gongyi takes International Medal at 2018 ICE Awards

Wuhan’s engineer Dr Xu Gongyi gained the International Medal at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Awards in the 200th anniversary year of the Institution, on October 8, local time in London.

Founded in 1818, ICE is one of the world's most respected professional engineering associations, and attracts some of the most famous and influential civil engineers in history. The civil engineer qualifications issued by ICE are protected by law in the Commonwealth countries, which are widely recognized all over the world.

As the only winner of International Medal at the ICE Awards this year, Xu Gongyi, who works at China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance and Design Institute as deputy chief engineer, has resolved numerous engineering challenges by offering innovative and pioneering solutions in the design of bridges during his 34-year career. As an outstanding scholar in the field, Xu serves as adjunct professors in five universities and has written more than 80 papers, reports, book chapters and books. He has appeared on national TV programmes to introduce bridge design and construction to inspire the younger generation.(hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei)
