Wuhan standardizes English street signs citywide
Wuhan has made efforts to standardize the English street signs citywide since last month. Experts were organized to improve the English signs in public areas and road facilities.
Tan Zhenghua, associate professor of the Foreign Language School, Jianghan University and one of the experts introduced that the English signs are prone to resulting in spelling mistakes, syntax errors, Chinglish, bad manners of speaking and ambiguity translation, which will make the signs lose functions as warning, instruction and notification.
At present, nine groups of experts have been teamed up to conduct selective examination around the city and related government departments at all level have been required to carry out errors self-checking and correction. (hubei.gov.cn by Ruan Xinqi)
