Wuhan East Lake Greenway wins 2018 ISOCARP Award for Excellence

On October 3, 2018, Wuhan East Lake Greenway Implementation Plan presented by Wuhan Land Use and Urban Spatial Planning Research Center (WLSP) won the Grand Award for Excellence, during the 54th ISOCARP conference held in  Norway.

The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) is a global association of experienced professional planners, which was founded in 1965 in a bid to bring together recognized and highly-qualified planners in an international network. Set up in 2005, the ISOCARP Awards for Excellence, rewarding urban and regional plans in design phase as well as projects in progress or already implemented, is widely accepted as the top award among the international planning circle.

“The core feature of the East Lake Greenway Plan is the creation of an online platform for public participation and exploring the ways for the public to contribute with their ideas: the purpose was not only motivating more people to offer the visions, but also making people real decision-makers,” the jury said.

The project of Wuhan East Lake Greenway has been universally recognized worldwide. In October 2016, this project was promoted at Habitat III, the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. In October 2017, this project was introduced to more than 40 countries from five continents at the Place Making Week in Amsterdam, Netherlands.(hubei.gov.cn by Zhang Yawei)
